Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.
(Luke 4:1–2 NIV)
The wilderness is where we are stripped of our sense of security: No structures to protect us from the wild or the elements. Nothing to eat, save for what we hunt or gather. No clear sense of direction. In the wilderness, we are confronted with our utter dependence on God.
ACTION: Surrender the next 40 days to God. Ask Him to lead you and shape you to be less like your old self, and more like Christ.
