But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
(Luke 10:40 NIV)
Has your spiritual life been defined by activities? We might justify busy work as being done “for the Lord,” but when it distracts us from why—or, rather, from whom—we serve, it risks becoming an idol. Martha’s sister, Mary, sat at the feet of Jesus to listen to Him, for she knew what was better than keeping busy “for” Him.
ACTION: Don’t allow busyness to distract you from what’s important. Take the time to sit at the feet of Jesus and be nourished by His word.
